ALEXANDRIA, Va., Sept. 10 -- United States Patent no. 12,409,992, issued on Sept. 9, was assigned to Crown Packaging Technology Inc. (Alsip, Ill.).
"Coated metal closures" was invented by Paul Robert Dunwoody (Oxfordshire, Great Britain).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A metal closure (1) comprising a panel (10) and a depending side wall (14) terminating in a cut edge (15), the inner surface of the closure having a plurality of coating layers applied (21-27) such that at least one of the coating layers extends to the cut edge and the coating thickness at and in proximity to the cut edge is less than the thickness at one or more other regions of the inner surface."
