ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 2 -- United States Patent no. 12,643,814, issued on June 2, was assigned to CORNING Inc. (Corning, N.Y.).

"Glasses with improved tempering capabilities" was invented by Timothy Michael Gross (Painted Post, N.Y.), Peter Joseph Lezzi (Corning, N.Y.) and Jingshi Wu (Painted Post, N.Y.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "The disclosure relates to glass compositions having improved thermal tempering capabilities. The disclosed glass compositions have high coefficients of thermal expansion and Young's moduli, and are capable of achieving high surface compressions. A method of making such glasses is also provided."
