ALEXANDRIA, Va., April 7 -- United States Patent no. 12,596,981, issued on April 7, was assigned to ConsumerInfo.com Inc. (Costa Mesa, Calif.).

"Pre-data breach monitoring" was invented by Michael John Dean (Torrance, Calif.) and Mark Joseph Kapczynski (Santa Monica, Calif.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A method for providing pre-data breach monitoring provides information to businesses that is useful to predict portions of the company data that may not be secured well enough and other risks associated with data breaches, such as employees that may not be trustworthy."
