ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 16 -- United States Patent no. 12,305,118, issued on May 20, was assigned to ConocoPhillips Co. (Houston).

"Proppant from captured carbon" was invented by Dallin P. Laycock (Houston), Charlotte Plombin (Houston) and Samuel K. Huisman (Houston).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Method of making and using a proppant from captured carbon in either a carbon mineralization process or in a carbon nanomaterial manufacturing process, followed by treatments to ensure the quality control of the proppants so that they are suitable for use in hydraulic and other reservoir fracturing methods. These proppants allow the sequestration of significant amounts of carbon deep in the ground."
