US Patent Issued to Cisco Technology on May 13 for "Inversion layer avalanche photodiode with vertical electric field" (California Inventor)

ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 12 -- United States Patent no. 12,302,649, issued on May 13, was assigned to Cisco Technology Inc. (San Jose, Calif.).

"Inversion layer avalanche photodiode with vertical electric field" was invented by Gianlorenzo Masini (Carlsbad, Calif.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Embodiments herein describe an APD with a vertical electric field. In one embodiment, to reduce the thickness of the vertical electric field, an inversion layer at the interface between N doped silicon and an oxide is used as a cathode for the vertical electric field."

The patent was filed on Nov. 11, 2022, under Application No. 18/054,871.
