ALEXANDRIA, Va., Jan. 20 -- United States Patent no. 12,531,776, issued on Jan. 20, was assigned to CISCO TECHNOLOGY INC. (San Jose, Calif.).

"Extending active measurement protocol with OAM channel" was invented by Christian Schmutzer (Weinviertel, Austria), Patrice Brissette (Gatineau, Canada) and Rakesh Gandhi (Stittsville, Canada).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "In one example, techniques are provided for extending an active measurement protocol with an Operations, Administration and Management/Maintenance (OAM) channel. A first Provider Edge (PE) node obtains from or provides to a second PE node, over a packet-switched network via an overlay, OAM data in an OAM channel of the active measure...
