ALEXANDRIA, Va., March 31 -- United States Patent no. 12,589,076, issued on March 31, was assigned to Capsugel Belgium NV (Bornem, Belgium).

"Gelatin capsules with ground calcium carbonate" was invented by Stephanie Laurichesse (Illkirch-Graffenstaden, France), Ljiljana Palangetic (Colmar, France) and Stefaan Vanquickenborne (Rijmenam, Belgium).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "The invention discloses opaque capsule shells made from gelatin with ground CaCO3 as opacifier; and a method for making them."

The patent was filed on Oct. 8, 2020, under Application No. 17/761,296.
