ALEXANDRIA, Va., Dec. 31 -- United States Patent no. 12,507,954, issued on Dec. 30, was assigned to California Institute of Technology (Pasadena, Calif.).

"Auto-powered synthetic skin" was invented by Wei Gao (Pasadena, Calif.) and You Yu (Pasadena, Calif.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "An auto-powered biosensor capable detecting a target molecule, and a method of powering the same, wherein the biosensor is fabricated with a microfluidics layer, a multimodal sensing layer comprising a biofuel cell and an electrode, and a logic circuit that may include a processor and non-transitory memory with computer executable instructions embedded thereon."
