ALEXANDRIA, Va., Sept. 10 -- United States Patent no. 12,409,889, issued on Sept. 9, was assigned to ArcelorMittal (Luxembourg).
"Rear structure for an electric vehicle" was invented by Alexandre Sotty (Compiegne, France), Elie Gibeau (Pont-Sainte-Maxence, France), Nicolas Schneider (Saint Martin Longueau, France) and Yves Drouadaine (Pontoise, France).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Rear structure for an electric vehicle having a rear rail which includes a rear portion, a front portion and a transition zone, such that in the event of a rear crash the rear portion and the transition zone are both able to deform to maximize the amount of energy absorption."
