ALEXANDRIA, Va., Nov. 6 -- United States Patent no. 12,459,992, issued on Nov. 4, was assigned to Alexion Pharmaceuticals Inc. (Boston).

"Methods for treatment of refractory generalized myasthenia gravis" was invented by Camille Bedrosian (Woodbridge, Conn.), Fanny O'Brien (Norwell, Mass.) and Jing Jing Wang (Woodbridge, Conn.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "The disclosure provides methods of treating myasthenia gravis (MG) in a subject in need thereof by administering to the subject a substance that specifically binds complement component 5 (C5). In certain embodiments, the substance that specifically binds C5 is a binding protein, such as an anti-C5 antibody."
