"Magnesium sulfonate detergent having improved compatibility with friction modifiers" was invented by Scott Greenfield (Richmond, Va.) and Jason Bell (Powhatan, Va.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "The present disclosure provides a method of improving the storage stability of a lubricating composition including overbased magnesium sulfonate detergents by post-treating the detergents with select hydrocarbyl-substituted succinic acid or anhydride compounds."
