ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 2 -- United States Patent no. 12,643,022, issued on June 2, was assigned to Acushnet Co. (Fairhaven, Mass.).

"Golf club having a damping element for ball speed control" was invented by Gery M. Zimmerman (Fallbrook, Calif.), Charles E. Golden (Encinitas, Calif.), Helene Hipp (San Diego), Gentry Ferguson (San Marcos, Calif.), Oswaldo Gonzalez (Corona, Calif.) and Ryuichi Sugimae (San Diego).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A golf club head including a striking face, a back portion, and a back cover attached to the back portion, wherein the golf club head includes damping structures and materials to achieve desired acoustic characteristics."
