US Patent Issued to Acura Pharmaceuticals on Oct. 27 for "Methods and compositions for self-regulated release of active pharmaceutical ingredient" (Maryland, Georgia Inventors)

ALEXANDRIA, Va., Oct. 27 -- United States Patent no. 12,773,454, issued on Oct. 27, was assigned to Acura Pharmaceuticals Inc. (Palatine, Ill.).

"Methods and compositions for self-regulated release of active pharmaceutical ingredient" was invented by Albert W. Brzeczko (Roswell, Ga.) and R. Gary Hollenbeck (Ellicott City, Md.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "An abuse deterrent pharmaceutical composition including a pharmaceutically active ingredient; an acid soluble ingredient; and a buffering ingredient; wherein the acid soluble ingredient and the buffering ingredient retard release of the active pharmaceutical ingredient when the composition is ingested in excess of an intended dosage."
