ALEXANDRIA, Va., Sept. 3 -- United States Patent no. 12,404,165, issued on Sept. 2.
"Inverse stirrup" was invented by David Elliot (San Diego).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "An inverse stirrup for use in horseback riding that a horseback rider contacts with the top of the rider's foot to resist upward or transverse force and maintain position on the horse. The inverse stirrup is attached to the horse by means of a circumferential or semi-circumferential strap such as the girth strap passing beneath the horse such that the inverse stirrup resists displacement upward."
The patent was filed on March 4, 2024, under Application No. 18/595,246.
