According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Compositions comprising starch-acrylic polymers combined with elemental iodine are disclosed. The SAP-I compositions release non-toxic amounts of iodophor iodine in a sustained, controlled manner. Methods of formation and use of the compositions along with methods of creation and use of devices incorporating the compositions in a variety of healthcare and non-healthcare settings are set forth in detail herein."
