"Hinged floatation mat" was invented by Zachary Jon Stevens (Grove, Okla.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A floatation mat with a plurality of hinged flat foam panels which can be quickly and conveniently folded for compact storage and transport, and then easily unfolded and deployed for use."
