ALEXANDRIA, Va., May 12 -- United States Patent no. 12,624,563, issued on May 12.

"Earthquake anchor" was invented by Mikhail Gershfeld (Fullerton, Calif.), Matthew Slazas (Nampa, Idaho) and Michael Waggoner (Santa Ana, Calif.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "An earthquake anchor for a mass plywood panel has a replaceable fuse plate clamped between two members embedded into the mass plywood panel and anchored to the floor or foundation. The fuse plate deforms in an earthquake but keeps the mass plywood panel intact. The deformed fuse plate is then replaced with a new fuse plate."

The patent was filed on Aug. 1, 2024, under Application No. 18/791,777.
