ALEXANDRIA, Va., March 24 -- United States Patent no. 12,582,892, issued on March 24.

"Movement-examination system for electronically determining strike-zone location during ball movement" was invented by Ronald J. Meetin (Mountain View, Calif.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A movement-examination system (102 or 202) usable for electronically calls "balls" and "strikes" in baseball and softball electronically determines whether at least part of a ball (52) pitched by a pitcher (P) toward the strike zone (56) entered the zone based on its shape as the ball moved toward the zone."

The patent was filed on Dec. 15, 2022, under Application No. 18/082,292.
