According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A force sensing toothbrush takes the form of a conventional hand-held toothbrush with an integrated capability to determine and alert a user that a proper, effective brushing force is employed. Irrespective of any abrasive medium such as toothpaste and rinse, an often overlooked aspect of brushing is simply the agitation of the brush against the tooth surface and to gingival and sulcus depth for removal of plaque and other soft tooth borne substances.
