"Golf tee" was invented by Trevor Palairet (Inverness, Australia).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A golf tee is disclosed, which is resistant to breaking and resistant to flying. The golf tee herein comprises a head; a stem; a ground-gripping ring or rings; and a terminal grounding tool."
