"Detachable carpet" was invented by Keith Kiernan (San Dimas, Calif.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A detachable carpet disclosed comprises a carpet cover, multiple edge strips, and a mat, wherein the carpet cover is constructed as a surface with decorative and functional properties, the edge strips are connected to the side of the carpet cover facing a mat, wherein the edge strips and the carpet cover are separate structures; the mat is constructed as a support layer, which is detachably connected to the edge strips, thereby detachably connecting to the carpet cover via the edge strips."
