According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Stocks for a rifle or other firearm transition between a deployed configuration and a stowed configuration. In the stowed configuration, a buttstock of the stock is positioned to at least partially surround the scope within an internal volume of the buttstock. The buttstock covers at least a portion of the rifle scope without needing to contact the scope, and is rigid enough to protect the scope from impacts.
