The University of Maine is launching an Early Reading Interventionist graduate certificate aimed at providing teachers and other educators with effective strategies to help young children learn to read and build lifelong literacy skills.
According to the most recent federal data, Maine students' scores on standardized tests have declined over the past three decades, and fourth- and eighth-grade students in the state now score below the national average in reading.
