HERSHEY, Pa. - The annual tradition of pops, bangs and light shows that celebrate the July 4 holiday often result in an altogether different holiday tradition nobody wants.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission reported an estimated 13,000 injuries involving fireworks and 15 deaths nationwide in 2024, its most recent available data. Overall, fireworks-related injuries have trended upward since 2008, following a temporary dip during the COVID-19 pandemic when many public displays were canceled.
