U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), a member of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee, released the following statement after Jimmy Lai was sentenced to twenty years in prison by the Hong Kong High Court.
Sen. Cruz said, "The sentence imposed on Jimmy Lai is effectively a life sentence, though Chinese Communist Party authorities are too cowardly to own their oppression. It confirms again that the CCP will stop at nothing to silence those who speak out against its tyranny, and that Hong Kong has become a city fully under the control and abuse of the CCP.
