SEN. BANKS, COLLEAGUES INTRODUCE RESOLUTION CONDEMNING CHINESE SUPPRESSION OF ETHNIC MINORITIES

WASHINGTON, June 29 -- Sen. Jim Banks issued the following press release:

Sen. Jim Banks, along with colleagues Sen. Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.), Sen. John Curtis (R-UT), and Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.) introduced a bipartisan resolution that condemns the Chinese Communist Party's Ethnic Unity and Progress Law.

Set to go into effect on July 1, the Ethnic Unity and Progress Law erodes the rights of minority groups through the targeting of language and culture in public settings. It also threatens the sovereignty of nations around the world with a clause that allows the Chinese government to target the people and groups outside of China it deems accountable for undermining Chinese "ethnic unity."
