U.S. Senator Brian Schatz (D-Hawai'i) today joined a signing ceremony to meet with and congratulate Maui families impacted by the 2023 fires who are set to receive a federal award of up to $600,000 to help buy a new home. The awards, part of the county's First-Time Homebuyer Opportunity Program, is funded by the $1.6 billion in federal Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) money Schatz secured (https://www.kitv.com/news/senator-schatz-secures-1-6-billion-for-maui-funding-in-new-long-term-housing/article_ce086f86-bd0c-11ef-9547-a3b27adf8604.html) for Maui in 2024.
