Today, Reps. George Whitesides (D-CA), Mike Kennedy (R-UT), Doris Matsui (D-CA), and Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-IA) introduced the Protecting Kids from Human-Like Chatbots Act. This legislation protects kids by prohibiting chatbots from communicating by default in a human-like way with minors. Under this bill, the programs cannot claim to be human, have simulated emotions, or use relationship-building language to keep kids engaged.
