WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Representative Gabe Vasquez (NM-02) partnered with Rep. Stansbury and Rep. Leger Fernandez to urge the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to not decommission critical air safety technology used by the Double Eagle Airport II (DEII) in Albuquerque. The FAA recently initiated a study to decommission the Instrument Landing System (ILS) at the Double Eagle Airport without providing answers regarding the recent airspace closure and plane crash incidents in and around New Mexico airspace. Pilots in New Mexico use both ILS and GPS to land due to the unique challenges posed by flying commercial aircraft near military bases.
