Today, U.S. Senators Alex Padilla (D-Calif.) and Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) and U.S. Representative Jared Huffman (D-Calif.-02) urged the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) to investigate the Trump Administration's proposed agency consolidation within the Department of the Interior (DOI). The lawmakers demanded answers about whether the consolidation would undermine the independent offshore safety oversight Congress established after the Deepwater Horizon oil spill and leave workers, communities, and taxpayers at greater risk.
