Congressman Johnny Olszewski today issued the following statement in response to the State of Maryland's announced $2.25 billion settlement with the owners and operators of the Dali cargo ship that crashed into the Francis Scott Key Bridge:
"Today's settlement is an important and positive step toward rebuilding the bridge as quickly, safely, and cost-effectively as possible. By avoiding the uncertainty and delay of a lengthy trial, these funds can be put to work sooner to support the recovery and reconstruction effort. The settlement is far greater than the liability claimed by the Dali's owner and operator.
