Washington, Dec. 16 -- Representative Zach Nunn issued the following press release:

U.S. Representative Zach Nunn (IA-03), a Colonel in the U.S. Air Force Reserve, today led a moment of silence on the House floor to honor two Iowa National Guardsmen killed in an ambush by an ISIS-affiliated terrorist near Palmyra, Syria, on December 13, 2025.

The attack also wounded three additional Iowa Guardsmen and claimed the life of U.S. interpreter Ayad Sakat. These deaths mark the first U.S. combat fatalities in Syria since 2019.
