NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION ISSUES PROPOSED RULE: REGULATORY ENHANCEMENTS FOR REACTOR LICENSING, DECOMMISSIONING, AND OPERATIONAL OVERSIGHT

WASHINGTON, Sept. 24 -- Nuclear Regulatory Commission has issued a proposed rule called: Regulatory Enhancements for Reactor Licensing, Decommissioning, and Operational Oversight.

The proposed rule was published in the Federal Register on Sept. 24 by Jody Martin, Secretary of the Commission.

Summary: Consistent with Executive Order 14300, "Ordering the Reform of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, " the NRC is conducting a review and wholesale revision of its regulations. This proposed rule primarily aims to provide regulatory enhancements for reactor licensing, decommissioning, and operational oversight and is one effort in the NRC's activities to address the direction in section 5 of Executive Order 14300.
