FAYETTEVILLE, Ark., Aug. 3 -- The University of Arkansas issued the following news release:
Joanna Leapheart Newman, a longtime faculty member in the Sam M. Walton College of Business' Department of Management who became its first assistant department chair, died July 20 at age 75. After joining the U of A in 1990, Newman devoted the next quarter century to teaching, mentoring and serving students, colleagues and the Walton College community before retiring in December 2015. Generations of students, faculty and colleagues came to know Newman not only for her leadership but for her remarkable ability to listen, encourage and help others recognize their own potential.
