In case you missed it, Arizona Senator Mark Kelly joined Juneteenth celebrations across Phoenix last weekend, presenting a certificate of recognition to the Arizona Historical Society at their 5th Annual Juneteenth Celebration. The event highlighted themes of resilience in education, migration, and family.\
Kelly also attended a church service at the historic Tanner Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church, the oldest African American church in the State of Arizona, led by Reverend Dr. Benjamin N. Thomas. The church was founded by African Americans who came to Arizona to escape racism, oppression, and violence in the post-Reconstruction South.
