KEARNEY - In 2016, Jessica Clark watched her late husband slowly lose the ability to communicate after a brain tumor left him with aphasia, which affected his ability to formulate words.

Unfortunately, finding someone who could help proved to be difficult.

Even living in Palmer, one of Alaska's more populated communities, Clark and her family waited four months to get an appointment with a speech-language pathologist.

"Once he got in, she gave us the gift of being able to have some communication for the last part of his life," Clark said.
