BLACKSBURG, Va., July 16 -- Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University issued the following news release:
Across the commonwealth, elevated heat will last through at least Sunday, July 19. While not as high as the temperatures we saw at the beginning of the month, the next few days will bring heat indices in excess of 100 degrees in most locations, along with the potential for thunderstorms this weekend. Overnight cooling will be minimal.
Additionally, smoke from Canada's current wildfires will permeate throughout the commonwealth, degrading air quality. Please monitor current conditions and local forecasts with an eye toward safety for outdoor work and events. It is important to take care of yourself and others.
