WASHINGTON, DC [10/1/26] - Representatives Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR) and Riley M. Moore (R-WV) introduced bipartisan legislation to help people securely and safely dispose of unnecessary prescription medication.
The Safe Disposal of Opioids Act aims to stop prescription drug abuse by establishing a national grant program to install and maintain roughly 10,000 secure disposal receptacles across the country. These drop boxes will be conveniently located throughout healthcare facilities and community pharmacies where patients pick up their prescriptions, providing an easy way to dispose of excess medication.
