We've all been there. A professor assigns a group project, walks away, then expects magic to happen. But simply putting people into a group does not teach them how to be a team. Without explicit tools, the experience often sours into something miserable.
Left to their own devices, student groups default to a familiar, fractured survival tactic: divide and conquer. "You take the project and you rip it into pieces, and each person takes a piece," explained Stephen Crowley, Boise State professor of philosophy.
