Around 2010, University Architect Lisa Johnson began planning what has become one of the most popular places on NCState's campus: Talley Student Union. The project was a renovation of the original building, which was constructed in 1972 when the student population was about half its current size. Students lamented in surveys and feedback sessions that Talley had become more of an office building than a hub for campus life. Some even said they felt like there was nothing for them there.
