SANTA FE, N.M., June 4 -- The New Mexico Attorney General issued the following press release:

This afternoon, a jury found David Chapman, 57, guilty of sexually abusing an underage family member. The six-year-old disclosed to family members that the defendant was regularly touching her private parts and that it had happened "hundreds [of times]." Chapman was found guilty of First Degree Criminal Penetration of a Minor of a child under the age of 13. This case is one of several that the New Mexico Department of Justice (NMDOJ) assumed responsibility for from the McKinley County District Attorney's Office late last year.

Today's conviction ensures a minimum of 18 years in prison for the defendant.
