Two years after she interned at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USU) as a college sophomore, Army 2nd Lt. Ava Santiago returned to campus on Friday, Aug. 14, as the guest speaker at the 2026 Summer Scholars closing ceremony - and as an incoming USU doctoral student in clinical psychology. She is the arc the Summer Scholars Program is built to produce: a civilian summer intern who left, became a commissioned officer and a published researcher, and came back to stand in front of the next class.
