U.S., Aug. 30 -- With 2.4 billion US dollars in long-term debts, Spirit Airlines filed for bankruptcy for a second time on Friday. Budget Airlines, which pioneered budget travel in the United States, has been overtaken by no-frills airfares now offered by mainstream competitors such as United Airlines and American Airlines.
Spirit Aviation Holdings exited Chapter 11 after finalizing debt restructuring in March of this year. The reorganization plan, which received court approval last month, aimed to bring the carrier back to profitability and allocate resources to compete with its rivals.
Apparently, this did not work out, and another Chapter 11 was the result on Friday.
