Padma awards transformed into 'People's Award' under Modi govt: Dharmendra Pradhan Bhubaneswar, Aug 8 (UNI) Former union Education Minister and Sambalpur MP Dharmendra Pradhan on Saturday said the Padma Awards, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's tenure, have been transformed from an honour associated with elite circles into a true "People's Award".Speaking at the 'Matira Mahak' programme organised at the Rangabati stage of Gangadhar Meher University in Sambalpur, Pradhan said the process of selecting Padma awardees had undergone a significant transformation under the Modi government."Earlier, people had to reach elite circles in Delhi to receive Padma Awards. Today, the government is identifying and honouring genuine achievers from villages who have devoted their lives to folk art, literature, agriculture, education and social service," he said.Pradhan was speaking while felicitating Padma awardees from western Odisha and interacting with them during the programme.He said people born in the region who, through their dedication, talent and perseverance, created a distinct identity for themselves before being conferred the Padma Shri were living examples and an inspiration for society.Highlighting the unparalleled contribution of Swabhaba Kabi Gangadhar Meher to the Odia language, literature and society, Pradhan also shared his experience of visiting Kotia in Koraput.He urged the younger generation to study the valour, sacrifices and contributions of lesser-known freedom fighters and historical personalities, including Veer Surendra Sai, the heroes of the Kudopali struggle, Bakshi Jagabandhu and Pindiki Bahubalendra.He also called upon the youth to draw inspiration from the dedication and achievements of Padma awardees from Odisha."Only through such efforts can we strengthen the path towards a developed Odisha and a developed India," Pradhan said.The former union Minister further emphasised the need for collective efforts to establish an arts college in Sambalpur in the name of renowned Sanskrit playwright Murari Mishra, describing it as an important cultural aspiration of the region.He expressed confidence that the proposed institution would eventually emerge as a major centre for education and training in dance, literature, performing arts, modern digital art and other allied art forms.On the occasion, Pradhan felicitated Padma award-winning personalities from western Odisha, including Bhagabat Padhan, Srinivas Udgata, Pattayat Sahu, Haldhar Nag, Jitendra Haripal, Mitrabhanu Gauntia, Kailash Chandra Meher and Mahendra Kumar Mishra, and congratulated them for their outstanding contributions to art, culture, literature and society.UNI DPभुवनेश्वर, 8 अगस्त (वार्ता) पूर्व केंद्रीय शिक्षा मंत्री और संबलपुर के सांसद धर्मेंद्र प्रधान ने शनिवार को कहा कि प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी के कार्यकाल में पद्म पुरस्कार अभिजात्य वर्ग से जुड़े सम्मान से बदलकर सही मायनों में "जन पुरस्कार" बन गये हैं।
संबलपुर के गंगाधर मेहर विश्वविद्यालय के रंगाबती मंच पर आयोजित 'माटीर महक' कार्यक्रम में श्री प्रधान ने कहा कि मोदी सरकार के दौरान पद्म पुरस्कार विजेताओं के चयन की प्रक्रिया में व्यापक बदलाव आया है।
उन्होंने कहा, "पहले पद्म पुरस्कार पाने के लिए लोगों को दिल्ली के सत्ता के गलियारों तक पहुंच बनानी पड़ती थी। आज सरकार गांवों के उन वास्तविक साधकों की पहचान कर उन्हें सम्मानित कर रही है, जिन्होंने अपना जीवन लोक कला, साहित्य, कृषि, शिक्षा और समाज सेवा को समर्पित कर दिया है।"वह ओडिशा के पद्म पुरस्कार विजेताओं को सम्मानित करने और उनसे बातचीत करने के अवसर पर बोल रहे थे।
उन्होंने कहा कि इस क्षेत्र में जन्मे जिन लोगों ने पद्मश्री से सम्मानित होने से पहले अपने समर्पण, प्रतिभा और दृढ़ता के बल पर अपनी एक अलग पहचान बनायी है, वे समाज के लिए जीते-जागते उदाहरण और प्रेरणा हैं।
ओडिया भाषा, साहित्य और समाज में स्वभाव कवि गंगाधर मेहर के अद्वितीय योगदान की चर्चा करते हुए श्री प्रधान ने कोरापुट के कोटिया दौरे का अपना अनुभव भी साझा किया। उन्होंने युवा पीढ़ी से वीर सुरेंद्र साई, कुड़ोपाली संघर्ष के नायकों, बख्शी जगबंधु और पिंडिकी बाहुबलेंद्र जैसे कम चर्चित स्वतंत्रता सेनानियों व ऐतिहासिक हस्तियों की वीरता, बलिदान और योगदान का अध्ययन करने का आग्रह किया।
उन्होंने युवाओं से ओडिशा के पद्म पुरस्कार विजेताओं के समर्पण और उपलब्धियों से प्रेरणा लेने का भी आह्वान किया। श्री प्रधान ने कहा, "इस तरह के प्रयासों से ही हम विकसित ओडिशा और विकसित भारत की दिशा में अपना मार्ग मजबूत कर सकते हैं।"पूर्व केंद्रीय मंत्री ने संबलपुर में प्रसिद्ध संस्कृत नाटककार मुरारी मिश्र के नाम पर कला महाविद्यालय स्थापित करने के लिए सामूहिक प्रयासों की आवश्यकता पर जोर देते हुए इसे इस क्षेत्र की एक महत्वपूर्ण सांस्कृतिक आकांक्षा बताया। उन्होंने विश्वास व्यक्त किया कि प्रस्तावित संस्थान अंततः नृत्य, साहित्य, प्रदर्शन कला, आधुनिक डिजिटल कला और अन्य संबद्ध कला रूपों में शिक्षा व प्रशिक्षण के प्रमुख केंद्र के रूप में उभरेगा।
