Fire at TMC leader Swapna Barman's house sparks political row in JalpaiguriSiliguri, May 16 (UNI) A fire at the old house of TMC leader Swapna Barman on Friday night has triggered a political controversy in Bengal's Jalpaiguri, with rival parties trading allegations over the incident.सिलीगुड़ी, 16 मई (वार्ता) पश्चिम बंगाल में तृणमूल कांग्रेस के नेता स्वप्ना बर्मन के पुराने घर में शुक्रवा को लगी आग ने बंगाल के जलपाईगुड़ी में राजनीतिक विवाद तेज हो गया है जिसमें प्रतिद्वंद्वी दल इस घटना को लेकर एक-दूसरे पर आरोप-प्रत्यारोप कर रहे हैं।
On Saturday, the Asian Games gold medallist and TMC leader lodged a complaint at the West Bengal Police's Kotwali police station.शनिवार को एशियाई खेलों के स्वर्ण पदक विजेता और तृणमूल नेता ने पश्चिम बंगाल पुलिस के कोतवाली पुलिस स्टेशन में शिकायत दर्ज कराई।
Swapna Barman, who had quit her railway job to join All India Trinamool Congress, contested the 2026 Assembly election from the Rajganj constituency, but suffered defeat in the polls.स्वप्ना बर्मन ने रेलवे की नौकरी छोड़कर तृणमूल कांग्रेस में शामिल होने का फैसला किया था और उन्होंने राजगंज निर्वाचन क्षेत्र से 2026 के विधानसभा चुनाव में चुनाव लड़ा था लेकिन उन्हें हार का सामना करना पड़ा।
Following the fire incident, she alleged through a social media post that her house had been targeted in post-poll violence. However, local residents dismissed the allegation and claimed the incident was being politicised after her electoral defeat.आग लगने की घटना के बाद, उन्होंने सोशल मीडिया पोस्ट में आरोप लगाया कि चुनाव के बाद हुई हिंसा में उनके घर को निशाना बनाया गया। हालांकि स्थानीय निवासियों ने इस आरोप को खारिज कर दिया और दावा किया कि उनकी चुनावी हार के बाद इस घटना का राजनीतिकरण किया जा रहा है।
Some residents alleged that during the Trinamool Congress regime, Swapna Barman and her family members had misused political influence and intimidated villagers.कुछ निवासियों ने आरोप लगाया कि तृणमूल कांग्रेस के शासनकाल के दौरान स्वप्ना बर्मन और उनके परिवार के सदस्यों ने राजनीतिक प्रभाव का दुरुपयोग किया और ग्रामीणों को डराया-धमकाया।
Rajganj BJP MLA Dinesh Sarkar said, "From whatever information I have gathered, the incident appears to be linked to a family dispute between brothers. I do not think BJP workers are involved in any way."राजगंज के भाजपा विधायक दिनेश सरकार ने कहा, "जितनी भी जानकारी मैंने जुटाई है उससे लगता है कि यह घटना पारिवारिक विवाद से जुड़ी है। मुझे नहीं लगता कि भाजपा कार्यकर्ता इसमें किसी भी तरह से शामिल हैं।"At the same time, BJP leader Anandamay Barman condemned the incident, saying, "Swapna Barman is a pride of the Rajbanshi community and has brought glory to the country with her Asian Games gold medal. An attack on her house is unfortunate and condemnable. I hope the police conduct a fair investigation and punish those responsible."वहीं दूसरी ओर, भाजपा नेता आनंदमय बर्मन ने इस घटना की निंदा करते हुए कहा, "स्वप्ना बर्मन राजबंशी समुदाय का गौरव हैं और उन्होंने एशियाई खेलों में स्वर्ण पदक जीतकर देश का नाम रोशन किया है। उनके घर पर हमला दुर्भाग्यपूर्ण और निंदनीय है। मुझे उम्मीद है कि पुलिस निष्पक्ष जांच करेगी एवं दोषियों को सजा देगी।"The incident has also drawn reactions from political leaders. TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee posted on social media in support of Swapna Barman.इस घटना पर राजनीतिक नेताओं ने भी प्रतिक्रिया व्यक्त की है। तृणमूल नेता अभिषेक बनर्जी ने स्वप्ना बर्मन के समर्थन में सोशल मीडिया पर पोस्ट किया।
On the other hand, West Bengal Panchayat and Rural Development minister Dilip Ghosh took a swipe at her, remarking that "the company she keeps has affected her conduct," adding that such incidents were "not unexpected."पश्चिम बंगाल के पंचायत एवं ग्रामीण विकास मंत्री दिलीप घोष ने उन पर कटाक्ष करते हुए कहा कि जिन लोगों के साथ वह रहती हैं, उनका असर उनके व्यवहार पर पड़ा है और यह भी कहा कि ऐसी घटनाएं अप्रत्याशित नहीं थीं।
Speaking to reporters on Friday night, Barman said, "Perhaps entering politics was my mistake. Many people cannot accept me because I come from a poor family." After filing the police complaint on Saturday, she again alleged that she was being threatened after contesting and losing the election, indirectly blaming BJP supporters.शुक्रवार रात पत्रकारों से बात करते हुए सुश्री बर्मन ने कहा कि शायद राजनीति में आना मेरी गलती थी। कई लोग मुझे इसलिए स्वीकार नहीं कर पाते क्योंकि मैं एक गरीब परिवार से आती हूं। शनिवार को पुलिस में शिकायत दर्ज कराने के बाद उन्होंने फिर से आरोप लगाया कि चुनाव लड़ने एवं हारने के बाद उन्हें धमकियां मिल रही हैं और उन्होंने अप्रत्यक्ष रूप से भाजपा समर्थकों को इसके लिए जिम्मेदार ठहराया।
