Bengaluru, Aug. 14 -- A letter by Karnataka Minister B.Z. Zameer Ahmed Khan seeking exemption from being assigned charge of any district has triggered a political controversy, with Leader of Opposition R. Ashoka demanding his immediate dismissal from the Cabinet and an apology over his inability to attend the Independence Day flag-hoisting ceremony in Vijayanagar.
Zameer, in a letter to Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, said the State was heading into a busy electoral phase involving elections to several local bodies, including the BBMP, Assembly by-elections and Congress organisational activities. He therefore requested that he not be given the responsibility of Minister in-charge of any district.
