Thiruvananthapuram, April 28 -- In a tragic incident, a 23-year-old youth lost his life after being struck by lightning while playing football with friends at Chengannur in Alappuzha district of Kerala on Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as Asif Ashraf (23), a native of Mulakuzha. The incident occurred at Puthencavu, where he was engaged in a football match on a ground near a church.
According to reports, sudden summer rain accompanied by strong winds and lightning hit the area during the game.
In the midst of the downpour, lightning struck Asif on the neck, leaving him critically injured.
His friends, who were playing alongside him, escaped unhurt.
