Chennai, July 23 -- Yet another incident of alleged custodial death surfaced on Thursday, when a 24-year-old youth Arunachalam, detained during a prohibition enforcement drive for possessing over 100 liquor bottles, succumed to injuries at a hospital in the southern Thoothukudi district today.
He was admitted to the Thoothukudi Government Medical College Hospital (TGMCH) on July 17 and was undergoing treatment for the last week. However, he succumbed this morning, triggering protests by his family members, who alleged that he died due to alleged custodial torture by police and refused to receive the body.
