Beijing, May 14 -- Meeting his American counterpart in Beijing, President Xi Jinping issued a stark warning over Taiwan during the joint summit in Beijing on Thursday, cautioning President Donald Trump that any mismanagement of the Taiwan issue could lead to "clashes and even conflicts" between the two economic superpowers.

The meeting marked the first face-to-face talks between the two leaders since October 2025 and the first visit to China by a US president since Trump travelled to Beijing back in 2017.

Despite marked tensions surrounding Taiwan, trade, and the war involving Iran, both leaders publicly struck a largely cordial tone, suggesting that their meetng was amicable and productive.
