New Delhi, Aug. 12 -- Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said India marked World Elephant Day by celebrating the tusker as an integral part of the country's ecological heritage, noting that India is home to more than 60 per cent of the world's wild Asian elephant population.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister said India's 33 Elephant Reserves provide vital habitats for the species and strengthen long-term conservation efforts. He also acknowledged the contribution of forest personnel, scientists, veterinarians, mahouts and local communities in protecting elephants and their habitats.
